The Thai-Mex-Funk on this LP is truly a joy to listen to. I loved their last LP and I like this one just as much. What an excellent album! Unfortunately my copy has abundant surface noise everywhere-- and this is after doing an initial deep cleaning with my Hannl RCM. I'll update this review after I try a couple more deep cleans to see if the gunk in the grooves is removable but my initial take is no. I'm going to contact the label to see if I can get a little help with my copy. Again, will update this once I know more.UPDATE 5/22/2018: I contacted the label and a new copy is being sent out. Will report back after I receive it. Keeping fingers crossed. Deep cleaning made no difference on my initial copy BTW.UPDATE 6/15/2018: Received the replacement copy from the label. Side two had serious surface damage across several of the tracks. Loud distortion, popping, etc., on those tracks. I took photos to show the label. If not for this damage this pressing might have been passable. Label is sending one final replacement-- so I'll report back. I also ordered an import copy, will report on that as well.UPDATE 6/20/2018: I received my numbered off-white vinyl import copy and was disappointed. A thorough cleaning-- using stronger than normal detergent concentration (2.5%) with DH2O rinse improves playback. Possibly repeat cleaning and a few plays might reduce surface noise to acceptable levels. My copy is right on the edge. UPDATE 6/30/2018: I received a second replacement copy from the label today. It's a rare record label that stands behind their products like this. I'm very happy to report that this copy was quite good! It suffered from none of the issues reported above and playback was a revelation compared to all of my previous copies. The problems I've reported have been related to the early pressings of this LP. This later pressing looks and sounds vastly better. So good copies of this truly excellent LP are now out there!

Yesterday I listened to a recent repress (black vinyl) that my local vendor ordered for his shop. I got no further than halfway the second track when the needle had serious trouble staying in the grooves. After a couple of needle skips and poor sound, I gave up and got the CD.

Did you both have US pressings ? In my opinion the are quite good overall compared to EU's ?This is what happened after the CD's and the MP3's industries took over the business for so many years : a lost of vinyls pressing knowledge. Now, I recommend the labels to ask the japanese how to do it. They have kept the chinese culture alive for a millenium ; I believe they have kept the american vinyls pressing secrets as well.

just today i listened to my copy that i bought at their show. i had the same experience with surface noise. i always do a thorough cleaning before i play my vinyl whether new or used but it was still very noisy. it's a shame because it's such a beautiful record. if you get the chance to see them live don't pass it up!
