Album

Uh-Huh is a 1983 album by John Cougar Mellencamp, a stage name for John Mellencamp. It was Mellencamp's seventh studio album and the first in which he used his real last name. It charted at 9 on the Billboard 200. Uh-Huh contained three Top 20 Billboard Hot 100 hits: Crumblin' Down 9, Pink Houses 8, and Authority Song 15. In 1989, it was ranked No. 32 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Albums of the 80's. Uh-Huh runs out of steam toward the end, but the first half - with the dynamic rocker Crumblin' Down, his best protest song, Pink Houses, the punky Authority Song, the melancholy Warmer Place to Sleep, and the garage rocker Play Guitar - makes the record his first terrific album. Track Listing. Uh-Huh Remastered. John Cougar Mellencamp. Rock 1983. With 1983s Uh-Huh, Cougar began reclaiming and defining his identity as more than just a sassy, snarky rock n roll singer. He added back his real last name and recorded an album that spoke simply and directly from his heart and mind. The Authority Song took its message from the Bobby Fuller Fours I Fought the Law and its guitar sound from the Rolling Stones, marrying the two. Watch John Cougar Mellencamp's 'Crumblin' Down' Video. Although American Fool was certainly a hit in its own right, it was with Uh-Huh that Mellencamp really started asserting his grip on the musical zeitgeist. He may never have been the biggest-selling or best-reviewed artist, but he boasted a strong core audience whose reliable passion helped keep him near the upper reaches of the charts throughout the decade something Wanchic attributes to Mellencamp's steadfast unwillingness to settle. He is known for his catchy, populist brand of heartland rock, which emphasizes traditional instrumentation. Mellencamp rose to fame in the 1980s while honing an almost startlingly plainspoken writing style that, starting in 1982, yielded a string of Top 10 singles, including Hurts So Good, Jack & Diane, Crumblin' Down, Pink Houses, Lonely Ol' Night, Small Town, . in the .
