The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment OAE is a British period instrument orchestra. The OAE is a resident orchestra of the Southbank Centre, London, associate orchestra at Glyndebourne Festival Opera and has its headquarters at Kings Place. The leadership is rotated between three musicians: Matthew Truscott, Kati Debretzeni and Margaret Faultless. A group of period instrumentalist players formed the OAE as a self-governing ensemble in 1986, and took its name from the historical period in the. One of the highlights of the 1993-1994 season was the Orchestra's European tour conducted by Simon Rattle. 1994 also mared the OAE's debut at the Edinburgh Festival with two concerts of L. Beethoven symphonies under Sir Charles Mackerras. 1995 also saw the beginning of the OAE's new residency at St. Georges, Brandon Hill, in Bristol, in association with BBC Radio 3 FM.
