Album

Joe Ely. Lord of the Highway. Lord of the Highway, Joe Ely's sixth studio album, is something of a return to form for him, in both qualitative and stylistic senses. Ely released five albums four studio sets and the concert recording Live Shots on major label MCA Records between 1977 and 1981, gradually modifying his style from country to rock. 1984's Hi-Res took the transition a step further, as Ely returned to record stores after a three-year break with an album on which synthesizers played a major part, but fans and critics had mixed reactions. This album is a good example of Joe's roadhouse music, as some have called it. This is a cross between rock and country, early AmericanaTexas Red Dirt you might say. The lyrics to the songs are very good and they sound well for a studio album. I do have to admit that I enjoy these same songs on the Live at Liberty Lunch album better because that is the best way to enjoy Joe is live . The collection represented the first boxed set release of America's material. Originally, the collection was to promoted as including four discs, including newly recorded material, but was scaled back to three discs shortly before release. The resulting collection was heavily tilted toward the Warner Bros. releases, with the. Lord Of The Highway. Joe Ely Format: Audio CD. Please retry. I've always had a soft spot for this album. Apart from having loads of talent himself, Ely's been blessed with having great collaborators from the beginning, and Lord of the highway is no exception. Butch Hancock's songwriting skills are as excellent as always and especially evident on Row of dominoes. Lord of the Highway, 03:54. Me and Billy the Kid, 03:24. Letter to La, 08:12.
