Album is the third studio album by Joan Jett and the second to feature her backing band The Blackhearts. The album was originally released in July 1983. Unlike Joan Jett's two previous albums, only two tracks are cover songs, though this had not been the original plan. When we included lots of covers, people would call us on it. Joan Jett's debut album is an infectious romp through her influences, ranging from classic '50s and '60s rock & roll through glam rock, three-chord loud'n'fast Ramones punk, and poppier new wave guitar rock. Unfortunately, Bad Reputation is flawed by its literal-mindedness the arrangements pump along gamely yet rarely swing or soar and by some unresourceful material. But in its mood and feel, Joan Jett's first solo album is a determined retelling of what sometimes seems like the truest rock story there is. Album is arguably Joan Jett's strongest non-compilation release, featuring a consistent, freewheelingly wide range of material which the Blackhearts really tear into and punchier, more detailed production. Once again, Jett delivers strong, enthusiastic performances, but this time, the quality of the material lends her equal support. The singles Fake Friends and Everyday People the Sly & the Family Stone song scraped the bottom of the Top 40 charts other highlights include Jett's original The French Song, which details a ménage à trois.
