The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is an annual long-distance sled dog race run in early March from Anchorage to Nome, entirely within the US state of Alaska. Mushers and a team of 14 dogs, of which at least 5 must be on the towline at the finish line, cover the distance in 815 days or more. The Iditarod began in 1973 as an event to test the best sled dog mushers and teams but evolved into today's highly competitive race. Iditarod Trail. Written By Jimmy Simpson. Saskatoon Saskatchawan. ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Alaskas famed Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race has joined a new global partnership billed as the World Series of long-distance sled dog racing and aimed at bringing more fans to the cold-weather sport. The Iditarod has teamed up with Norway pet food supplement company and series creator, Aker BioMarine, and other races in Minnesota, Norway and Russia for the inaugural QRILL Pet Arctic World Series, or QPAWS, next year. Discussions also are under way to add other races, including the 1,000-mile 1,610-kilometer Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race traversing Alaska and Canadas Yukon each February. Over ten songs, Simpson leads his tight-knit rock quartet through a super-charged flow of indignant Southern Rock Fastest Horse in Town , strutting disco-boogie Sing Along , and pulsing modern blues Best Clockmaker on Mars that do away with the typical melodic, structural conventions of country and folk. Sound and Fury begins much in the same way as Simpsons recent live set: with an exploratory psych-blues jam. Establishing the tone on the four minute instrumental Ronin, Simpson is smart enough to cede much of the narrative storytelling of Sound and Fury to his guitar. Alaskan Native Pete Kaiser wins the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race after NINE grueling days in one of the closest finishes in the competition's 46-year history. Peter Kaiser became the first Alaskan to win the competition in nine-years. He finished the race 12 minutes ahead of last year's champion, Joar Ulsom. Peter Kaiser was crowned the winner of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race on Wednesday, throwing his arms over his head and pumping his fists in the air as he became the first Alaskan native to win the iconic prize in nine-years. Only four other Alaska Native mushers have won the race, including John Baker, an Inupiaq from Kotzebue, in 2011. The Oilfield Boy Sings Kiana Kid And Other Favorites. 7 listeners.
