Jim Ward is a seasoned musician whose past bands include: At the Drive In, Sparta, and Sleepercar. This release spans four years in the making and two discs. Jim first recorded acoustic renditions of his original compositions roping in friends such as Tegan Quinn of Tegan and Sara, Sleepercar band mates Gabe Gonzalez and Gregg Sosa, as well as Maura Davis of Denali fame. Quiet in the Valley. is an amalgamation of his acoustic trilogy EPs released between 2007 and 2011. The songs all run a line of predictable folk country that offers few surprises as the album goes on. Opening track On My Way Back Home is a highlight and, coupled with later track My Town , shows Wards love and appreciation for both his roots and his hometown of El Paso. The latter track is a beginners guide to the town, with a play-by-play of the areas history and landmarks. Wards voice takes on an odd Jeff Tweedy-meets-Chris Martin mixture throughout the album that is a bit off-putting if you dote on his rock past. However, it isnt necessarily a bad change. In The Valley, On The Shores is a solo EP released by Jim Ward. It is the second time he released a solo EP, and is the second out of the three EP's in his acoustic EP trilogy. It was released May 1, 2009 by Ward's Civil Defense League record label. The EP also features Tegan Quin, from the band Tegan and Sara, who sings harmony on the second track Broken Songs.
