The Trial is a 1962 French-Italian-German drama film directed by Orson Welles, who also wrote the screenplay based on the 1925 posthumously published novel of the same name by Franz Kafka. Filmed in Europe, Welles stated immediately after completing the film: The Trial is the best film I have ever made. The film is a paranoic nightmare interrupted here and there by moments of typical Welles humor. One of the elements that contributes greatly to the atmosphere of the film is the soundtrack of Jean Ledrut that makes use of both original parts and adaptations by Tomaso Albinoni Adagio in G minor. This soundtrack makes extensive use of adaptations of Albinoni music as well as some original tracks very atmospheric. The Trial Composer 1962. La peau d'un homme Composer 1951. Admittedly, The Trial suffers from pacing issues, and it did also lose its way to me in its final quarter, but by the time the film had reached that, it had still made its point well. This is a a feature of paranoia, exploring human freedom or lack thereof and the failures of justice around Review by Mr. DuLac . The Trial is one of those stories that's always stuck in my brain, ever since I first read it. I love Kafka, and the Kafkaesque story structure, it's an almost ur-surrealism that's as metaphorically dense as it is slippery. So, naturally, I was excited to see Welles's take, a master of film taking on this wonderful story
