Wax Museum is the eighth studio album by Jay and the Americans released on February 28, 1970. The album went to 105 on the Billboard 200 chart and reached 68 on the Cashbox chart. The album was the group's last charting album. The group's cover of The Ronettes' song Walkin' in the Rain hit 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1970. Rock 1970. Walkin' In The Rain. Wax Museum was the follow-up to the successful oldies revivalism of Jay and the Americans' previous album, Sands of Time, and was also the group's last charting album. Walkin' in the Rain, an excellent cover of a 1964 Ronnettes hit, made the Top 20, but the album produced no further singles and didn't quite reach the album Top 100. The band later complained that they recorded only reference vocals for the album and United Artists released it before they could set down the finished tracks. Walkin' in the Rain and the Americans were a pop rock group most popular in the 60s and 70s, known for romantic pop hits such as 1969's This Magic Moment and 1970's Walkin' In The Rain. Their initial lineup consisted of Howard Kane born Kirschenbaum, John J. Traynor, Kenny Vance born Rosenberg, and Sandy Yaguda. They were discovered while performing in student venues at New York University in the late 50s.
