The double-disc album is composed of 33 of her number-one hit singles spanning various music charts across the globe. Number Ones collects singles from her third studio album Control 1986 to her 10th studio album Discipline 2008, and was made possible as a joint venture. It is part of the Icon album series, designed to feature the greatest hits, signature tunes and fan favorites of the most popular artists in music history. An abbreviated version of the 34-track anthology Number Ones, this contains 12 tracks, only ten of which were actually number one U. For whatever reason, there's Make Me, an exclusive track thrown onto Number Ones to bait collectors, as well as Nothing, Janet Jackson's contribution to the soundtrack for Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too Neither one of those songs charted at all.
