James Carroll Booker III December 17, 1939 November 8, 1983 was a New Orleans rhythm and blues keyboardist born in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. Booker's unique style combined rhythm and blues with jazz standards. Musician Dr. John described Booker as the best black, gay, one-eyed junkie piano genius New Orleans has ever produced. Flamboyant in personality, he was known as the Black Liberace. James Madison Jr. March 16, 1751 June 28, 1836 was an American statesman, diplomat, expansionist, philosopher and Founding Father who served as the fourth president of the United States from 1809 to 1817. He is hailed as the Father of the Constitution for his pivotal role in drafting and promoting the Constitution of the United States and the United States Bill of Rights. He co-wrote The Federalist Papers, co-founded the Democratic-Republican Party, and served as the fifth United States. English Deutsch Español Français Italiano 日本語 한국어 Português Brasil Русский. Nome real: James Carroll Booker lll. Perfil: Versatile American pianist, born 17 December 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, died 8 November 1983 in the same city. In the 1950s he recorded rhythm & blues, but had a much broader musical spectrum that included pop songs, the theme from The Godfather, and renditions of Chopin waltzes. James Booker was an unheralded genius of American music, a New Orleans pianist whose dizzying technique and mastery of the keyboard was matched only by his imagination and his soulfulness. His short and often flamboyant life was also marked by struggle and lost opportunity. A page commemorating one of the world's greatest piano virtuosos who lived an extraordinary life. As a gay, black habitual drug user, Booker didn't really fit into the United Staes mold and his talent was largely ignored. He travelled to Europe in the late 70s where his talents as an entertainer were much better appreciated and he played to packed concert halls and theatres across Europe. On his return to the United States, he was well aware of his talent, but became disillusioned when it was not recognised in his home country and he could only get gigs in bars and clubs. James Booker was only 43 when he died, his end coming just over a year after the piano player and singer had completed his final album, the newly reissued Classified. By that point, drugs and alcohol had taken over his life. After downing a mixture of Antabuse and gin, he had a seizure during the photo session for the album, which was recorded in his home town of New Orleans in October 1982. It's not quite accurate to describe him as forgotten but for the past three decades a new generation of music lovers, not able to see him perform, have been largely unaware of this piano star
