It ends with no aplomb at all, as if dear Jacques simply got tired of his own shenanigans. The libretto gives us a bandit chief, whose gang is restive about lack of rewards. This is an excellent performance of an Offenbach operetta from the Opera de Lyon. The music and performances are great. The only thing that doesn't work here is the change of setting from the Italian mountains to downtown Chicago.
