Vinyl spoken arts label Cadabra Records presents an audio adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s vintage chiller, The Picture In The House, read by renown Lovecraftian scholar and narrator Andrew Leman, with an original score by Fabio Frizzi – the legendary film composer of The Beyond, Zombi 2, Kill Bill and other genre classics.

Haunting, hypnotic, and suspenseful, Frizzi’s original score is both recognizable and groundbreaking. With a full musical ensemble, the composer creates a timeless and unforgettable soundscape that will be regarded for years to come, and a work beyond anything previously produced for the spoken arts.

Lovecraft Historical Society and a professional actor with years of stage, screen, and audio performances), whose performance captures the proper terror, dread, suspense, and madness of this revered entry in the Lovecraft canon. The Picture in the House is a short story written by H. It was written on December 12, 1920, and first published in the July issue of The National Amateur-which was published in the summer of 1921. While riding his bicycle in the Miskatonic Valley of rural New England, a genealogist seeks shelter from an approaching storm. He enters an apparently abandoned house, only to find it occupied by a loathsome old, white-bearded, and ragged man, speaking in an extreme form of Yankee dialect. Lovecraft's classic short story The Picture In The House. Predating the influential cosmic horror of Lovecrafts Cthulhu Mythos stories, this 1921 story follows a man in the New England backwoods seeking shelter from a storm in a house owned by an old man with a taste for human flesh. The picture here is actually an illustration in a book of disturbing content, read by a disturbed man. As far as I picked up, there was no supernatural content, for once. I thought it started interestingly but ended in a rushed and dissatisfying way. This Lovecraft short might be best known for being the story that introduces the fictional town of Arkham in the Lovecraft universe. It's the story of a lone traveler who rides a bike through a storm and seeks shelter in an old decrepit house, only to find out that he isn't alone in it. It's a solid story with a cannibalism theme.
