This is the original CD reissue from 1989, co-released by Outlet Records (Belfast) and Homespun Records (Dublin). Note there is no mention of remastering on the sleeve. The remastered Outlet edition (a doubtful claim) followed a few years later.

The Táin is an album by Irish rock band Horslips. Their second studio album, it was Horslip's first attempt at making a concept album, an idea they would return to in 1976 with The Book of Invasions: A Celtic Symphony. The Táin was based on the Táin Bó Cúailnge The Cattle Raid of Cooley, one of the most infamous legends of Early Irish literature, dealing with the war between Ulster and Connacht over a prize bull. Other productions from H. does rock hard, and unlike a lot of progressive rock, The Tain displays considerable tension and momentum. Some listeners will detect modest similarities to Jethro Tull's work especially on Charolais, but there's a lot less meandering here than there is on Tull albums, the flute playing is better, and the material moves forward in a fairly nimble fashion.
