Antigone is the third full-length album of the German metal band Heaven Shall Burn. It was released on April 26, 2004 through Century Media Records. The title was inspired by the female character of the play Antigone by Sophocles. The play is about a passionate young woman, that does what she knows is right, even though it is against the law. You see, these five gentlemen from Germany use a formula of metalcore which contains no breakdowns, no watered-down, fruity guitar leads and dont rely on solely frets zero and one to create their heaviness. Instead, the use of simple but effective melodies and a progression of chords and riffs which take advantage of the twenty-something other frets on their guitars coupled with a downright vicious vocal department to create an album which is not only inherently heavy, but also injected with subtle nuances that make it much mo. With their third album, 2004's Antigone, Germany's heavily touted Heaven Shall Burn finally get the international distribution through Century Media to match their world-level deathcore style, and its fair to say they grab their chance for all its worth. Heaven Shall Burn are a German extreme metal band from Saalfeld, formed in 1996. The band consists of vocalist Marcus Bischoff, guitarists Maik Weichert and Alexander Dietz, bassist Eric Bischoff and drummer Christian Bass. They are currently signed to Century Media. They have released eight studio albums, as well as a number of other records.
