Al Haig, Piano Harry Babasin, Cello and Bass Bob Enevoldsen, Tenor Sax Larry Bunker, Drums and from a shellac record, at 78 revolutions is the fourth studio album by Harry Nilsson, released August 1969 on RCA. It was his first album to get onto Billboard Magazine's Billboard 200 chart, remaining there for 15 weeks and reaching 120. Harry features jazz saxophonist Tom Scott, pianist Mike Melvoin, flutist Jim Horn, session drummer Jim Gordon, Larry Knechtel on bass, and David Cohen and Howard Roberts on guitars. Yervant Harry Babasin, Jr. 19 March 1921 21 May 1988 was an American jazz bassist. His nickname was The Bear. Babasin was born in Dallas, Texas to an American mother and an Armenian father. He attended North Texas State University, one of many noted jazz alumni from the school. Among them were Jimmy Giuffre, with whom Babasin played in Bill Ware's orchestra around 1940, and Herb Ellis, who played with Babasin in the Charlie Fisk Orchestra starting in 1942. Fisk actually fired his rhythm section. Harry Babasin was along with Oscar Pettiford probably the first bassist to play jazz cello. This LP reissue of a set originally for the MOD Music of the Day label features Babasin's Jazz Pickers a quartet with guitarist Dempsey Wright, bassist Ben Tucker, and drummer Bill Douglass, plus guest vibraphonist Terry Gibbs. The music five Babasin originals and three veteran standards swings hard but lightly with Babasin's cello solos being the date's most unusual feature.
