Take My Breath Away. by Gui Boratto. supported by. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1974, Gui Boratto began working as a producer, audio engineer and multi-instrumentalist in the early '90s. After countless licenses from major international major labels, he started dedicating his time to his own music, stringing together various strands of pop-infused techno and house and translating them into his very own stream of groove consciousness. Azzurra de Gui Boratto por Camerata Florianópolis e Daniel Kuhnen - Продолжительность: 5:27 Daniel Kuhnen. Альбом 2009 Песен: 11. Songs in album Gui Boratto - Take My Breath Away 2009. Gui Boratto - Atomic Soda. Gui Boratto - Azzurra. Gui Boratto - Ballroom. Gui Boratto - Besides. Gui Boratto - Colors. Gui Boratto - Eggplant. Gui Boratto - Godet. Take My Breath Away, the follow-up, folds the cold abstractions of techno into the lyrical sheen of synth-pop. You can take the album's title any way you like- a reference to the Top Gun Berlin jam, a mawkish platitude, or a winking jab at both. In any case, the record is quite different thematically from Chromophobia. Boratto battered Chromophobia opener Scene 1 with skittering rhythms and gong-like bass revelations, pushing the mix so far in the red it almost knocked the track off its rhythmic foundation. Take My Breath Away purrs in comparison, winding up tension not via rhythmic interplay, but by the fact that he's actually playing it straight. Take My Breath Away is the second studio album by Brazilian DJ and producer Gui Boratto. It was released on German label Kompakt, with an internet release on February 23, 2009, a US release on March 3, and a UK release on March 9. Take My Breath Away - 06:45. Atomic Soda - 08:48. TAKE MY BREATH AWAY suggests something of a sophomore slump for Gui Boratto, who can still turn out pumpers as with his first album, but not quite with the same magic. The title track gets things off on the right foot, and Atomic Soda has a nice burble that won't leave you burping, even as it takes an almost martial tack. Gui Boratto. Atomic Soda, 08:46. Colors, 03:58. Take My Breath Away is a heavily populated but still carefully fashioned landscape, never feeling crowded and skipping effortlessly between lush ambience and driving techno. Read full review. One gets the sense, however, that in acknowledging where his inspirations came from and figuring out where his compositions will go on Take My Breath Away, he's misplaced the present tense and the once-present tension. TAKE MY BREATH AWAY suggests something of a sophomore slump for Gui Boratto, who can still turn out pumpers as with his first album, but not quite with the same magic. The title track gets things off on the right foot, and "Atomic Soda" has a nice burble that won't leave you burping, even as it takes an almost martial tack. The pleasant "Colors" takes the BPMs down for a bit, but it's all a run-up to the obvious hit of the album, "No Turning Back." Much like "Beautiful Life," "No Turning Back" strikes that perfect balance of pop and techno, with a Peter Hook-like bass for good measure ("Besides" will carry the New Order comparison even further). The rest of the album, however... Okay, it's not bad. "Azurra" is funky enough, but the last four tracks in particular seem to go nowhere fast. Both "Ballroom" and "Eggplant," in particular, drag on, and are essentially interchangeable. Even the piano ending of the delicate "Godet" seems a few notes too many. It's not like Boratto to be dull, but there you have it.
