In a 2017 interview to Paste Magazine, Jason Lytle said about the places where the album was recorded: There probably was only a tiny bit, like little bits and pieces, that took place in Montan. Album 2017 12 Songs. When he stepped back into the cockpit to record Last Place, it was as if nothing had changed since 2006's Just Like the Fambly Cat. He was still the only member of the band writing songs and recording them. Only Aaron Burtch occasionally stopped by to add some drums. The sound of the album is very similar to where Grandaddy left off too in fact, it's very similar to the solo albums Lytle made while the band name was on ice. Grandaddy - Last Place 2017. Some Grandaddy songs are about technology. Nearly all of them are about junk: Alcoholic robots and broken household appliances outlive their usefulness and are left to rust. But the same basic fate awaits lost kittens, lonely spacemen, forlorn miners, and hollowed-out cities of rural California, eulogized by a band whose fuzz pedals, analog synths, and withered harmonies always sound like theyre about to give out. Review: Grandaddy, 'Last Place' It's rare for a band to make a comeback album like Last Place that stands up alongside its best work. Now, nearly 10 years after Grandaddy's previous release, Lytle has actually relocated back to his old California stomping grounds, and revived the band - including Aaron Burtch, Tim Dryden, Jim Fairchild and Kevin Garcia - to perhaps rewrite the band's ending. It won't come as a shock that Grandaddy's new album, Last Place, feels exactly like, well, old Grandaddy, in the best possible way. The Way We Won't, Last Place's first single and opener, is a perfect reintroduction. Album Name Last Place. Type Album. Released date 03 March 2017. Labels Columbia . Music StyleIndie Rock.
