Expansive, lush, and rhythmically compelling, Goldrush's The Heart Is the Place finds the Oxford, England, band reworking their sound just enough to keep things interesting, while retaining their core approach. Still evincing a kind of West Coast country-rock fuzziness combined with a '90s shoegazer aesthetic, Goldrush is like Ride with more roots leanings. In fact, it should come as no surprise that they backed former Ride frontman Mark Gardener on his 2005 effort These Beautiful Ghosts. Album 2007 12 Songs. More By Goldrush. See Album Releases. The problem is Goldrush don't really give us anything in place of its anthemic past: the songs are fine, but lack originality or spark the production's warm, but not experimental enough to have intrinsic value on that level alone. It's an album without edge nothing really holds the attention, and it ends up slipping in to the yawning chasm of average. It's only fair to point out that the band are at the centre of Oxford's Truck festival, which pretty much rules, as does the DIY ethic it revolves around. 9 Sun in Your Eyes. 10 The Heart Is the Place. 11 Yours and Mine. 12 A Joyous Final Chapter. Clips taken from original discs may contain strong language. And in the end, Goldrush's solution to the challenges they present is nothing new-it is the musical theme par excellence, love-but the band is believable and convincing in their promotion of the heart unlike so many modern rock bands who issue the same demand for love. The melodies and instrumentation are masterfully crafted and flow into a cohesive whole just like any great album's do. Enjoy, and hopefully these guys will stick together for more work Song picks: Every One of Us, 24 Hours, The Heart Is. Goldrush were formed in the late 1990s under the name Whispering Bob, after the DJ Whispering Bob Harris, who frontman Robin once served while working in the local SPAR shop. After releasing the mini album Another Fine Mess on their own Truck Records label, they changed their name to Goldrush, and soon after were signed to Virgin Records. Their first full-length album, Don't Bring Me Down, appeared in 2002, but the band was dropped by Virgin later that year. In 2004, the EP Ozona was released on Truck named after the town of Ozona, Texas where the band once broke down o. The Heart Is The Place Truck Records, 2007. Singles & EPs.
