She was born Gisèle Marie Louise Marguerite LaFlèche in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and studied violin and voice at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Ontario. She had at least two Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio programs, Meet Gisèle, where she played hostess to Jack Benny, Clark Gable. Gisele MacKenzie's career flourished during the time when pop music was making the transition toward rock & roll and teen pop, which is reflected in several of her recordings. Her biggest hit, Hard to Get, is purely a traditional pop song, but Pepper Hot Baby is a poprock hybrid - it packs a mild rock rhythm with its big-band arrangement. The album opens with Gisele MacKenzie singing Hard to Get this was a big hit for her and it's no wonder why when you hear it. Gisele's excellent diction and her sophisticated phrasing impress me a great deal and the musical accompaniment is just right for her singing. Boston Fancy is equally well done and I really like Unchained Melody which shines brighter than silver in gold when Gisele gives this her touch-she truly makes this ballad all her own and that's grand.
