Madama Butterfly is a favourite opera and I've recently seen the MET version at the Cinema which was marvellous, but the use of Asian actors for the Japanese parts and a young soprano for Butterfly and a young good looking tenor for Pinkerton bought the story to life in a way that most productions cannot which have western sopranos and middle aged. You can understand why Butterfly fell for Pinkerton and waited for him.
