It was released on 17 December 1976 on Charisma Records and is their last studio album to feature guitarist Steve Hackett. Following the success of their 1976 tour to support their previous album A Trick of the Tail, the group relocated to Hilvarenbeek in the Netherlands to record a follow-up album, their first recorded outside the UK. Writing and recording caused internal friction, for Hackett felt some of his. It's no surprise, really, that Wind & Wuthering feels so autumnal, less direct and nowhere near as frisky as Genesis ' later projects. Their second post- Peter Gabriel album, released on Dec. 17, 1976, arrived as creative disagreements between the soon-to-depart Steve Hackett and band co-founder Tony Banks reached a high-water mark. A member since 1971, Hackett was becoming increasingly frustrated with the four-man lineup's creative logjam so much so that the guitarist had already released Voyage of the Acolyte , his 1975 solo debut. Language: English. The next two weeks saw the Genesis album climb to No. 9 and then 7, but that turned out to be its peak, compared to the No. 3 achieved by A Trick Of The Tail. The single Your Own Special Way just missed the UK top 40, reaching No. 43, and No. 62 in America. But the trend was undoubtedly upwards: Wuthering became the bands first top 30 album in the US, hitting No. 26 and turning gold. The media were kind, too: Sounds, for example, gave the album five stars, and American titles such as Rolling Stone and Billboard were positive. I saw Genesis in concert 4 times, including The Lamb.
