Generationals is an American new wave duo formed in New Orleans, Louisiana. The duo, consisting of Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer, released their debut album, Con Law, in July 2009. An EP, Trust, followed in November 2010. Their second full-length album, Actor-Caster was released on March 29, 2011. The band's third album, Heza, was released April 2, 2013 their debut for Polyvinyl Records. New Orleans indie pop duo the Generationals' 2011 sophomore effort, Actor-Caster is a veritable mixtape of '60s pop and '80s new wave sounds that manages to be a bit more cohesive than the band's 2009 debut, Con Law. As with Con Law, listening to Actor-Caster is like checking out a great compilation of old-school pop tracks that run the gamut from the '80s dance-oriented lo-fi sweetness of the Adam Ant-sounding Ten-Twenty-Ten to the synth pop meets Ramones balladry of Yours Forever and the '60s reverb-laden girl group cut You Say It. Generationals' sophomore release, Actor-Caster, is a heady collection of indie pop songs that combine sugary sweet hooks while remaining just outside of twee territory. Most of the tracks are upbeat, the lyrics are entertaining, and some of the rhymes are exceedingly clever I know I never thought of rhyming St. Thomas with I promise before now. The album doesn't redefine pop, or indie, or anything else, really, but it's a lot of fun, very easy to get into with surprisingly long legs. Actor-Caster is a little tighter and features a much catchier selection. It's all worth owning and they're a band worth supporting. So do what you can for'em and watch this band take off.
