Heading for Tomorrow is the first studio album released by German metal band, Gamma Ray on 26 February 1990 by Noise Records. In 2002 it was re-released with a different cover as part of the Ultimate Collection box-set. This re-released version of the album has also been released separately from the box-set. All tracks are written by Kai Hansen, except where noted. Look at Yourself only appears on the CD version of the album. With a 54 minute length, there is plenty of time for excellent leads, wailing vocals, and aggressive drumming. Though not the band's best effort, Heading for Tomorrow shows plenty of potential for a band that not only Helloween fans, but power metal fans in general will enjoy. In my humblest of opinions, it would be many years before Kai Hansen's former bandmates would come up with a record that tops this one. Definitely one of my favourite debut albums. Indeed, Gamma Ray's fine 1989 debut, Heading for Tomorrow, represented not only a logical continuation of Hansen's work with his former band, but served as a veritable tour de force for the newly independent guitarist, who single-handedly produced it and wrote all but two of its tracks. Whether cranking out melodic thrashers like Lust for Life and Hold Your Ground, flexing his mainstream metal muscles with consumer-ready numbers like Heaven Can Wait and Money, or venting his loftier compositional kinks on the 14-minute magnum opus of a
