Born out of the Portuguese music scene, Gala Drop is a project comprised of Lisbon's foremost underground agitator and patron for all creative sound endeavors Nelson Gomes, full time DJ, label owner and Loosers member Tiago Miranda and hyperactive drummer and percussionist Afonso Simões. Touring Europe in 2008 for the second time first was with Excepter in 2005, their music has evolved into a blend of triballatin-American influenced rhythms, kraut-rock synthesizer jams and much more. Their debut album was released in 2008. At first glance, you might be tempted to file Gala Drop's debut eponymous CD under Dub and leave it at that. You'd be wrong, mind you, for the music of this Portuguese trio is something else. Dub it is, sure, to some extent, but to that frame Nelson Gomes, Tiago Miranda, and Afonso Simões have grafted synthesizers that owe more to Klaus Schulze than to the Ozric Tentacles, and Motorik beats that fall closer to Krautrock or even Heldon than to Lee Perry. Gala is the debut compilation album by the English alternative rock band Lush, released in 1990 by 4AD as an introduction to the US and Japanese markets, comprising the band's earliest releases in reverse chronological order, plus two additional tracks.
