Fantasy started out playing at teen dances and graduated to performing at The Experience, a Miami underground hippie hangout. From 1967 through 1970 the band, led by its charismatic young singer Billy Robbins, was developing a following. Our writers held a fantasy draft to create five very different dream bands - and then took turns speculating about what would and wouldn't work in each case. We posed that question to our staff, and they created five very different fantasy bands. The rules were simple: We took turns choosing any musician, living or dead, from any genre, in a five-round draft. But once somebody was picked, they were no longer available for anybody else. Once the selections were made, we had each reporter discuss their band, the pitfalls they could encounter and which songs or albums they would like to hear them record. Again the band decided to change their name, it became FANTASY, a name that fitted more to the style and flavour of the music. The debut album was called Paint A Picture and released in '73 now on CD. Soon FANTASY belonged to the past, the tapes for a next album remained in the vaults of time. Fortunately the label Audio Archives released these tapes as a CD called Beyond The Beyond. The highlight on this album is the track Alexandrie almost 9 minutes with the Mellotron in all its splendor: majestic eruptions and beautiful waves along a typical Sixties sounding organ. A MUST . Fantasy biography US act FANTASY was formed by 5 teenagers in Miami in 1967, originally consisting of Billy ROBBINS vocals, Bob ROBBINS bass, Jim DeMEO guitar, Mario RUSSO keyboards and Greg KIMPLE Drums. They slowly built up a following, and local popularity eventually saw them signed as a house band on Thee Image, a highly popular venue at the time. Fantasy got signed to LibertyUnited Artists shortly after, and their self-titled debut album is released in 1970. They get a minor hit single with the instrumental Stoned Cowboy, but apart from that the album went nowhere
