I'm gonna be slightly controversial and say that Leaders of the Free World is one of Elbow's best albums LOTFW is so much warmer than the first 2 albums, it really embraces elements of Alt-Rock that were only touched on previously, like chunky, distorted guitars and bass on Mexican Standoff and the title track. We also get some of Elbow's biggest sing-a-long tracks that are designed perfectly for arenas and festivals. This is without doubt my favourite Elbow album and it's a crying shame that it was released at a time of crisis by their record label. Had it been released with the fanfare of their later works I'm sure it would now be regarded as a classic. The songs range from anthemic Station Approach to loud & political Leaders of the Free World to quietromantic Great Expectation & Puncture Repair.
