The Astonishing is Dream Theaters second concept album after 1999s Metropolis Pt 2: Scenes from a Memory. Described as an honest-to-God rock opera by Rolling Stone, it has been compared to The Whos Tommy 1969, Rushs 2112 1976, Pink Floyds The Wall 1979, and Queensrÿches Operation: Mindcrime 1988.
