Digital Leather is the musical project led by multi-instrumentalist Shawn Foree. It is recognized for having characteristics of electropunk, new wave, pop, lo-fi, and psychedelic music. Originally from Yuma, Arizona, Foree began calling his project Digital Leather when he moved to Tucson, where he studied American Literature at University of Arizona. Comprising 12 tracks, all written, performed and self-produced by the uniquely talented Shawn Foree [excepting where touring band members Jason Baker (keys) and Sean Ruse (drums) respectively contribute parts to one track each] this album takes the Digital Leather sound forward in a number of ways. Whilst retaining the amazing songwriting ability that marks him apart from the crowd and utilised many of his signature synth sounds and trademark DIY approach, Foree has moved the recording process out of his home studio for the first time to take full advantage of the tools available when working in fully equipped professional studios. The result, possibly influenced by his decision to employ Jay Reatard as his manager, has added a clarity and breadth of sonic range and vision to the sound plus a distinctly new set of guitar led arrangements for some songs. Old fans should not be concerned however as these tunes still deliver a bewildering powerful range of synth and drum machine sounds in which the strengths present in his back catalogue, alternately (and very unpredictably) tenderness, cruelty and a manic drive, all shine through.

Yes the songs do have an immediacy on first listening, but importantly the more times you listen the more you will discover the depth that lies within the songwriting and the performances on this magnificent album. In the words of a friend who has met Shawn Foree, got to know the back catalogue and seen Digital Leather perform "He is a complicated and amazingly talented man".
