A note about the original album mixes:
In mastering this album for compact disc, we were sure to do so from the original flat two-track masters for the first time. Every track sounds vastly superior to any previous releases, including CD versions of tracks used in compilations. Additionally, "cutting notes" in the tape boxes, which are for the vinyl pressing plant operator, suggests early fades for "Last Time I Saw Him", "Stone Liberty" and "Behind Closed Doors." We left them as they were, meaning this collection includes the same mixes with slightly longer fades.

A note about the Quad mixes:
In the early 1970s, long before surround sound, record companies tried their hand at the Quadrophonic market. "Quad" albums needed special decoding equipment and four speakers. Motown's Japanese affiliate released several albums remixed for four-channel, including live records from the Supremes, Jackson 5 and The Temptations, plus two Diana Ross studio albums, Diana & Marvin and Last Time I Saw Him. However, the companies used differing technologies and the format died. The albums have become collector's items. Even when played on traditional stereo equipment, the Quad albums offer different mixes with extended fades and alternate vocals.
