Jewel case version
Pacific Ocean Blue is the debut solo album by American songwriter-musician Dennis Wilson, co-founder of the Beach Boys, and the only one to be released in his lifetime. When released in August 1977, it was warmly received critically, and noted for outselling the Beach Boys' contemporary efforts. Two singles were issued from the album, River Song and You and I, which did not chart. Though the roots of this 1977 album go back to the early '70s, Dennis Wilson's one issued solo project, Pacific Ocean Blue, is certainly a product of its time, both musically and texturally. The set's 12 songs reveal a songwriter who was looking to stretch out on his own and engage a vision of music that stood far outside what the Beach Boys were capable of handling or executing. Pacific Ocean Blue is Dennis Wilson's only solo album, released on August 22, 1977. The crowning achievement of the brand of melancholy and introspective songwriting Dennis had been composing for near on a decade, it is regarded as perhaps the finest The Beach Boys solo album, notably outselling that group's contemporary album release at a time when tensions between Dennis and other group members were high. IT Is not typical beach boys music but being a fan of the beach boys I was looking for something new. to me the songs are mostly slow love songs so if you're looking for surfing music or music about cars forget this one. Pacific Ocean Blue, however, is a wonderful study in Beach Boys surfer soul imbued with the expressiveness of Dennis' piano style. Unlike Brian, who circa SMiLE was tweaking his vocals to sound younger on Child Is Father of the Man Brian sounds more like classic Eno than classic Wilson, Dennis' voice had al. After release of Pacific Ocean Blue, Wilson himself panned the album he had been making so painstakingly. He was wrong, needless to say. This album easily outsold most of Beach Boys then current records and those who have original copy of that album, may sell it for one hundred dollars. And it is because of the beautiful music. We deserved it, and so did Dennis
