AOI: Bionix is De La Soul's sixth full-length album, released in December 2001. This was the last De La project released on Tommy Boy before the label became defunct. The first single, Baby Phat featuring Yummy Bingham and Devin the Dude, was an ode to larger sized women. Elsewhere, Held Down, featuring Cee-Lo, found Posdnuos in an introspective mood as he mused on fatherhood. It appears from their latest release, AOI:Bionix, the second in their AOI trilogy, that De La Soul has managed to steer clear of similar ignominy. The trio, now in their third decade of existence, are well beyond the expiration date of some of their golden-era peers. And in doing so, they provide an obvious answer to the dilemma: target a new demographic. Genre: Hip Hop. One of my favorite songs of all time.
