Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture is a live album by English musician David Bowie, released in October 1983 in correspondence with the film of the same name. The music was recorded during the Ziggy Stardust Tour at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on 3 July 1973, although the album was not issued by RCA Records until 1983. Prior to that it had existed in bootleg form, notably His Masters Voice Bowie and the Spiders From Mars' Last Stand. Music video by David Bowie performing Ziggy Stardust. As a matter of fact if I had to choose between this CD and the October '73 Santa Monica bootleg which I also own I would choose this one. Yeah it doesn't have the songs with Jeff Beck but neither does the Santa Monica '73 CD either. This captures Bowie during his most interesting and innovative stage and is one of the very few times that the late Mick. The track Farewell Speech is known for Bowie saying Not only is it the last show of the tour, but its the last show well ever do, under the persona of Ziggy Stardust, rather than Bowie himself. More than just a backup band, the Spiders had an amazing, frenetic musical chemistry with Bowie-especially on stage. Just listen to the kinetic drive they bring to a swaggering Hang on to Yourself, their swelling, atmospheric background vocals on Time, or their blistering, proto-punk intensity on The Velvet Underground's White LightWhite Heat and you'll know just what we mean.
