I'm quite literally amazed at some of the comments here. There's complaints about the sound quality or lack thereof on a picture disc ?It's 2 pictures printed onto paper. Then clear vinyl over the top.....like 'a sandwich' ?It's like pressing a record with the label 'inside'.It's a very thin clear layer so the picture can be seen properly. The finished product is meant to look pretty and little more.

My mam made me get this record for her as the price has come down now. She really enjoys the music on both sides of the disc, but she is not very keen on the artwork of David Bowie as a giant flying hand. She says it looks like it was made by a man or a lady who was tripping on illegal chemical drugs!!

Still In Mind
Randomly stumbling upon one of your reviews always becomes the highlight of my day.

I got this at a local record store for $45 Canadian on RSD. It was a bit of an impulsive purchase; I regretted buying it minutes after paying for it. I finally put it on today thinking I should at least enjoy it if I can't resell it anyways -- 132 copies on sale at the moment.First of all, it's a beautiful piece of art. Every line of the text and design element looks crisp and the colours are vibrant. I really love it as a visual object. I'm mostly fine with the sound quality too. The bass is super heavy as it should be on this album. However, the noise floor seems more noticeable than I would prefer. It's probably because of the nature of the mix having a wide dynamic range and me playing it cranked up. There is a faint "woa-woa-woa" whooshing sound that can be heard between A2 and A3, but it doesn't bother me during the actual tracks. It's a dirty, gritty kind of music anyways...I wonder what the regular pressing of the reissue sounds like. I do love the reclining Bowie wearing the man dress. Maybe I'll get that too. Probably not.. I'm happy with the purchase. At least I'm telling myself that I am. No buyers remorse. It's Bowie!

blac wolf
I think that picture discs have a higher noise floor in general.

Alsantrius
Not sure if there was a second pressing, but I just found a few dozen at Used Kids Records in Columbus, OH.

Alright time to brighten somebodies day, head over to newburycomics.com and look under record store day they are selling the man who sold the world for a decent price plus shipping got me a copy, and wanted to pass the good new along.

Thomeena
Never had the German edition so I really enjoyed this RSD release. But I think it would have been much nicer if it had been delivered with a proper sleeve!

Zahisan
After all this drama, the quality isn't even that great. Surprised?

Brightcaster
Pretty much, yes. Picture discs are generally for decoration only.

Jaberini
is it normal to have a constant whooshing sound on picture discs? sounds terrible.

BroWelm
Most picture discs have bad quality due to the type of vinyl theyre on

Skilkancar
Available at HMV Hong Kong for about US$32 today. I bought mine from another shop only US$25.

CONVERSE
This one will be right up there with Rock N Roll Suicide from RSD 2014 and Get Behind Me Satan from RSD 15 as one of The Ones That Got Away. At least I got to meet the people that bought them. One of them wanted to trade if I could help him find some other record. Alas, I couldn't find it, so I watched him walk away with it. I could cry...

What was the regular retail price on this record? there were seemingly only four copies in a 200 mile radius from me, and I live near Asheville, home of the hipster douche, who are all now huge DB fans, because he's become so hip after his passing. Was it less than $20 USD?

Rrinel
not sure about price on the day, but in chicago at retail store reckless $20, has a rsd silver tag lower left fc, 2nd press or late arrival not sure

Thabel
I paid $21.99 in the US. To the person who paid $28, seems like your store is price gouging RSD stuff to make extra money.

Kakashkaliandiia
I paid $19.99 for my copy, here in the US.

asAS
It was $28 in my US record store, I think.

Vosho
I bought it in Switzerland and it was ca. $36 USD.

Dawncrusher
This release was just bad news. The RSD list was kind of crappy this year, and I believe 50% of the "record collectors" were after this one. It was not a good scene, I tried three different shops and just missed getting this somehow. I think we need to put RSD to rest. a bunch of hipsters who call records "vinyls"-no thanks.

Marilace
Agreed, it's a real shame what's happening with RSD. I couldn't get one of these from a shop either. But this my favorite Bowie record, along with Hunky Dory, so I was psyched to see this getting pressed. But the real question is: How does the record sound? I've had a mixed bag with picture discs.

Sorryyy
Thanks for the advice, I completely agree. Sounds great for a picture disc in my opinion. There is a little whooshing between tracks though like you said. Quality of the image is really great too.

It's a bit noisy between tracks, but otherwise sounds boss on my rig (I'm listening on B&W cans). Apparently it is the same remaster as in the big box set from last year, which I haven't heard. I had low expectations given that it is a picture disc, but my other pressings of this album are not with me right now so I decided to grab this (at the regular shop price). Parlophone could have done a better job with the overall packaging, but I don't think it's as hideous as some have suggested.
