Hitting the road together last year convinced longtime pals Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore to finally make an album together - Downey to Lubbock, which comes out June 1 via Yep Roc Records. So it's fitting that the video for the title track and first single, debuted exclusively below, takes the two back to the stage. Gilmore says the Downey To Lubbock album was a surprise result of his tour with Alvin. There wasn't any kind of plan behind it, he notes. It was just an idea. We came up with some dates and from the very beginning it was so much fun and it clicked so well and in so many different ways. Though Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore began their careers in different parts of the country, performing entirely different kinds of music Alvin in punk outfit the Blasters, Gilmore in country-folk band the Flatlanders they both got to experience the highs and lows of being a working musician. Downey to Lubbock, which will be released June 1st via Yep Roc Records, came about after longtime friends Alvin and Gilmore embarked on a 12-city tour in 2017 and decided to record together for the first time.
