Album

Daniil Trifonov releases a new double album on Deutsche Grammophon on October 6, titled Chopin Evocations. On the Polish composer, Trifonov says: Chopin speaks to everyone in a very personal way because he evokes emotions in us. This new release celebrates Chopins power to move and his influence upon other great composers including Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Barber and Mompou. For his 2017-2018 season, Trifonov brings his focus on Chopin to performances in Asia, Europe, and North America, among which include three Perspectives concerts at Carnegie Hall. Agitato 13. GRIEG Étude Hommage à Chopin no. BARBER Nocturne op. The album is entitled Chopin Evocations, but it consists of more than that. There are the two early piano concertos, premiered in new orchestrations by Mikhail Pletnev, who plays the role of conductor this time out. There are three actual Chopin compositions, two of them rather rare. So, it's sort of a mixed bag, but what makes it work is that Trifonov is an excellent Chopin interpreter, and that much of the music is extraordinarily interesting. The Pletnev orchestrations can certainly be debated, but there have been suggestions since the 19th century that the original orchestrations were not entirely Chopin's own, and others, including Alfred Cortot, have tinkered with the music. Album 2017 33 Songs. Daniil Trifonov. Classical 2017. The recordings conductor, Mikhail Pletnev, a major pianist in his own right, has made a new version of the orchestral parts, and while there are a few surprises, its the amazingly slow speeds they choose that most startle. Trifonovs piano sound is ravishing and heard to best effect in the many wonderful extras here: glorious solo La ci darem la mano Variations, a fabulous rondo with Sergei Babayan, and some Chopin-inspired miniatures.
