Go Gillis was most likely written and recorded in 1962. Gillis W. Long took office in the U.S. House of Representatives on January 3, 1963 and the song was used on the campaign trail before his election. Dale did it as a favor for senator of Louisiana (U.S. congressman 1963-1965, 1973-1985). Only 500 red label 45s were pressed and the record has the same song on both sides.
