Phantasmagoria is a 1972 album by Curved Air. It reached No. 20 in the UK Charts and is notable for its early use of the EMS Synthi 100 synthesizer to process lead singer Sonja Kristina's voice on the second side. Curved Air's third album was the band's most ambitious, a collection of songs demonstrating the musicianship of its members playing art rock with classical music influences. In October of 1972 the original lineup of Curved Air decided to call it quits. After 3 years of existence and constant touring, supporting and performing alongside acts such as Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull and Deep Purple, the founding members were exhausted by the rock n roll experience. The centerpiece of the album however is the 19'29 epic, four part Phantasmagoria suite which was written largely by Francis Monkman with contributions by Sonja. This is a decent large-scale composition that boasts some exceptionally intricate time signatures and fantastic ensemble playing. There are some psychedelic experimental passages here and there that really add a lot to the suite
