Craig Fuller and Eric Kaz left behind the underappreciated country-rock outfit American Flyer in 1977, but they had no better luck as a duo with their 1978 album Craig FullerEric Kaz. In the liner notes to the 2015 Real Gone reissue - the first-ever domestic digital release of this record - Kaz claims their label Columbia chose to focus their energies on Toto's debut, a decision that helped seal the commercial fate of the record, but the album turned into something of a cult favorite among '70s singersongwriter. Craig Fuller and Eric Kaz had already teamed up in American Flyer along with Blood, Sweat & Tears Steve Katz and the Velvet Underground s Doug Yule before they collaborated on this 1978 album, but their pedigrees went way farther back than that band. Fuller made his debut with J. Blackfoot in 1970 and co-founded Pure Prairie League for whom he wrote Amie among other PPL classics, while Kaz had cut his teeth with Children of Paradise along with Happy and Artie Traum before joining Blues Magooes for two records and cutting two solo records for Atlantic. 1978's Annabella by Craig Fuller & Eric Kaz is another one of those great. Fuller departed in 1973 after their second album, Bustin' Out, due to draft board problems. He returned to the music business in 1976 for two LPs with American Flyer.
