CD reissue of the 1986 album with 6 extra tracks and a completely different cover. This pressing is limited to 200 copies in a gate-fold mini-LP style sleeve.

Track 12 is a previously unreleased outtake. Tracks 13 and 15 are previously unreleased alternate mixes. Tracks 14, 16 and 17 were previously released on the Curd cd although 14 and 16 had slightly different titles.

Controlled Bleeding was an experimental music group based in Massapequa, New York, United States. The group was founded by Paul Lemos, the group's only consistent member. Most of Controlled Bleeding's released recordings feature two main collaborators, Chris Moriarty and vocalist Joe Papa, who both died in the late 2000s. Coiwield

In my opinion, this is *the* great and truly 'mature' early Controlled Bleeding album, finally reissued on CD. Largely dispensing with most of the Merzbowian noise paraphernalia upon which they built their early reputation, here Lemos & Co., offer quite a diverse array of styles, many of which turn up in the same track. There's some breathtaking beauty in the regal electronic rhythms and mutant Baroque atmospheres, although their usual undercurrent of dread still imbues the album's overall tone. CB's eclectic talents are on full display on this recording, crossing boundaries between post-industrial, experimentalism, sound collage, shock and awe, ugliness and beauty. That they executed it all so well is testament to the (then) trio's compositional capabilities. The extra tracks appended to this reissue tend to detract from the original LP's lush constituency, reveling in the group's prior, noisier realms, but "Core" still remains, for CB enthusiasts like myself who prefer their less assaultive recordings, a long-lost classic.
