It was initially released on October 25, 1971 by Columbia Records as a four-LP vinyl box set, and was also available for a time as two separate two-record sets. This awesome package not that expensive either back then was simply unsurpassed during the 70's, the only downside being the overly-simple bland artwork. The self-described rock and roll band with horns began as a politically charged, sometimes experimental, rock band and later moved to a predominantly softer sound, generating several hit ballads. They had a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s. I heard some not-so-flattering things about Chicago IVChicago Live at Carnegie Hall and I had apprehensions about buying the CD- I'd heard that the sound quality was so poor that even some of the band members never liked it, either. god this thing sucks so bad. don't waste your money no matter the deal. This is in reference to the 1971 pressing, although I don't see any amount of mastering making this thing worthwhile. Should have bought a studio album.
