He'll provide the encouragement, as long as they're willing to get on the dancefloor and move to his musical excursion. The riddim began life in 1968 as Keeling Beckford's Combination, but by the early '70s its sound was already quite outdated, so producer Alvin Ranglin handed the tape to engineer Sylvan Morris to conjure up a more contemporary sound. He did a fabulous job, taking what was then considered an overly perky backing and giving it some thrust and weight, while leaving enough of the original vocals for the DJ to play with. Following his career as a DJ, in the early 70's he drove around the backstreets of Kingston in his Swing A Ling Mobile Record Shack, a converted Morris Van.
