Clement James CJ McNaspy S. March 22, 1915 February 3, 1995 was a Jesuit priest, musicologist, educator, author, and retired Academic Dean Emeritus of the College of Music of Loyola University New Orleans in New Orleans, Louisiana. McNaspy was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on March 22, 1915 in Lafayette, Louisiana, the son of Clement J. McNaspy and Agnes Aimee Thibodaux McNaspy. McNaspy wrote several books, including the book Lost Cities of Paraguay upon which the story of the movie The Mission is based. He joined the faculty in New Orleans in 1948 as an assistant professor of classics and fine arts, served as dean of music in the late 1950's and retired in 1980. For the next seven years he served as a missionary in Paraguay.
