Album: The Lost Masters I: Alone In Colts Neck The Complete Nebraska Session. Nebraska is the sixth studio album by Bruce Springsteen, released on September 30, 1982, by Columbia Records. Springsteen recorded the songs as demos on a 4-track recorder, intending to rerecord them with the E Street Band, but decided to release them as they were. Nebraska remains one of the most highly regarded albums in his catalog. The songs on Nebraska deal with ordinary, down-on-their-luck blue-collar characters who face a challenge or a turning point in their lives. This album is maybe Springsteens most critically underrated. It consists of very dark songs questioning society, and ends with reason to believe , a somewhat hopeful song that reflects on humanitys determination to go on. Even though Springsteen did not record the album in the same style of famous American rockabillycountryblues singer Johnny Cash, he tried to find inspiration for the style and the themes of the album by listening repeatedly to the singles and the albums Cash published for his first label, the Sun Records. Bruce Springsteens 1982 solo album Nebraska has been called a folk album, and thats true to an extent in both its acoustic setting and, on some of the material, in the construction of the songs. It stands alone partly because Springsteen didnt tour behind it-his work is ultimately about his connection to his audience, and that connection is felt most intensely when hes performing onstage-and partly because the record itself is kind of an accident, something that fell into place before Springsteen knew what to do with it. Springsteens initial burst of material in Colts Neck clustered around isolation and disillusionment. But Bruce Springsteen was the first person to act on that theory, when he opted to release the demo versions of his latest songs, recorded with only acoustic or electric guitar, harmonica, and vocals, as his sixth album, Nebraska. It was really the content that dictated the approach, however. Nebraska's ten songs marked a departure for Springsteen, even as they took him farther down a road he'd already been traveling
