Brant Bjork born March 19, 1973 is an American musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Palm Desert, California. He is perhaps best known as the drummer and founder of the influential Californian stoner rock band Kyuss. Brant Bjork & The Operators is the second solo album by desert rock musician Brant Bjork , released in the Spring of 2002. Despite the implied band name, the near-entirety of the album was written, performed and recorded by Bjork. The sound of the album itself derives more from punk rock than the loose desert sounds on the previous effort. Also unlike Jalamanta more songs feature vocals, this time in seven of the ten tracks. As notorious a studio rat as he isn't a fan of touring, Kyuss and Fu Manchu drummer Brant Bjork continues to expand his increasingly eclectic and respectable career with this self-named project, which, though it may suggest otherwise, effectively represents a one-man tour de force minus keyboards, provided by one Mathias Schneeberger, and occasional guest vocalists and lead guitarists. The standard on Brant Bjork, his 13th full-length and latest in a continuing and thus-far-fruitful partnership with Heavy Psych Sounds, would seem to be conveyed right in the opener Jungle in the Sound, and the message is relatively straightforward. It needs a little funk, a little boogie, something rhythmic and intangible. Bjork has rarely shied away from engaging race in his work - all the way back to 2003s Keep Your Cool, which opened with Hey, Monkey Boy, up through more recent efforts like 2014s Black Power Flower - but Jungle in the Sound feels directly in conversation with Choc.
