Recorded on April 14, 1983, it was released as a single on June 1, 1984, featuring a live version of Isis from the film Renaldo and Clara as its B-side. Jokerman from the 1983 album Infidels is one of Dylans most analysed songs. Intentionally or unintentionally, Dylan perpetuated the confusion with the image of the Joker. The Joker is a special card found in most modern decks of playing cards that has its origins in the court jester of the middle ages and the Fool of the Tarot card deck. Infidels is Bob Dylan's 22nd album. Many consider it Dylan's return to secular music, after his previous three albums all dealt with his conversion to Christianity. The album was co-produced by Dire Straits frontman, Mark Knopfler. Dylan makes reference to the Greek hero Hercules in the line, You were born with a snake in both of your fists.
