But those expecting a poorly judged foray into two-step garage will be crushingly disappointed, as In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country runs like updated material from their majestic 1998 offering, Music Has the Right to Children. And like that album's namesake, these five a Beautiful Place Out in the Country is an EP by Scottish electronic music duo Boards of Canada. It was released by Warp and music70 on 27 November 2000, in the period between the duo's albums Music Has the Right to Children and Geogaddi. Like those albums, it was well-received by critics. It peaked at number 15 on the UK Independent Albums Chart. Originally pressed on blue vinyl, the vinyl version of the EP was reissued on black vinyl in 2013. When Boards of Canada's acknowledged appreciation for the laughter of children opens the vocodered titled track, it's as though Daft Punk's One More Time had calmed down and realized it forgot to have a childhood. This track, like Kid for Today, stands as a persuasive reminder to grown-ups that it's alright to lead simple lives, free from adornment. The vocoder is a little hackneyed- its lifespan as a relevant music-enhancing device has officially drawn to a close- but there's a distinct innocent abroad aesthetic here that many ban. Boards of Canada are damn good at what they do. And what they do is create Experimental Electronica, ambient soundscapes that are pleasing to the ear and a measure of the intellect. They proved their know-how on 1997's godsend Music Has The Right To Children, an enduring testament to this Scottish duo's skill and talent. Children alternated between many modes spanning its seventeen tracks, but in the context of an EP, BoC take a different approach. Despite that it could have been improved upon, In a Beautiful Place out in the Country is still an incredibly satisfying listen, and worth its brief investment of time. Their fourth album Tomorrow's Harvest was released in June 2013. Boards of Canada have had an enormous influence on the ambient, downtempo and IDM scenes. Forget everything you ever thought was dull or ponderous about ambient music, as Boards of Canada return like Greek heroes - unbound from a genre that often sounds like a washing machine begging for a swift kick. Pay attention, Radiohead. Boards of Canada traced a disturbed childhood in the arctic, austere Music Has the Right to Children, but here there's a slightly warmer feeling. Later press does not include sticker sheet and sticker on the shrink warp.

Was so sad when mine didn't have any stickers, thanks for clarifying :(

So magical at 33rpm. SO MAGICAL. Especially Amo Bishop Roden. Also it's longer so that's a plus! Anyway, fantastic pressing, the best sounding record I have. Amo Bishop Roden is currently my favorite song of all time (at normal speed).

kolos
Thanks man! I have never tried at 33rpm and It´s like you said SO MAGICAL and really evolving

GAZANIK
What a lovely thing this is. Life and record collecting affirming stuff.

Xlisiahal
Quality pressing! I have an older press on cd but this is nice and rich.

Gietadia
I picked this little gem up on a whim at a local record shop in Lawrence. I've been a fan of Boards since a friend recommended them to me-- hard to grasp at first, but it hits you in waves, and my love for BoC took off like an addiciton. I have yet to give it a spin (waiting for my new turntable to show up), but I'm incredibly satisfied with the presentation. Really nice, high quality stickers, and the matte finish on the cover itself is very satisfying to handle. My first physical release from Boards, and these tracks are consistent with the style from MHTRTC. A little bummed it's only in black, though!

I must agree, the matte texture of it all is so incredible. I'm really big on packaging (a large portion of why I buy vinyl in the first place), and for a non gatefold short EP, the packaging on this baby is so lovely. Tell me, how did yours sound? Mine is maybe the best sounding record I own.

Nidora
I just recently bought this, and I'm afraid almost all of my collection can't compete with this record, this is beauty beyond words.

Kabei
Wow! Didn't realize I was suppose to play at 45 rpm until reading the comments. Both speeds sound good. ;)

Felhann
I know, it's like a whole different experience at 33 that sounds just as good! Few albums can do that in my opinion.

Beautiful repress, nice quality vinyl and a cool sticker book included. This EP was released between MHTR and Geogaddi. It has a vibe all of its own, very atmospheric and calm, an air of mystery and the occult. The tracks are floatier, less beat-driven and less rigid than their previous stuff. I wish they'd done a full-length of similar material but this will do nicely. The last tune doesn't fit so well with the first three and is a bit aimless but it's pretty none the less.

Sat
hmm, just found out what it's 45 rpm))) 33 is ok too)))

Taulkree
Sounds amazing, looks just as good

Felolv
Blows the CD out of the water. Spectacular reissue.

Ces
Great repress

Thohelm
lovely press

Mettiarrb
Unlike TCH, this repress is one of the best-looking and sounding records I own. Could not be happier with it.

Lemana
I completely agree. My copy sounds quite a bit better than my Transcanada Highway copy for some reason. I've about driven my wife crazy listening to both of them though.

Camper
Same here. Sounds fantastic! :)

Ghordana
agreed, i feel the same with mine
