Third reissued in 1985 as ThirdSister Lovers is the third album by American rock band Big Star. Sessions started at Ardent Studios in September 1974. Though Ardent created promotional, white-label test pressings for the record in 1975, a combination of financial issues, the uncommercial sound of the record, and lack of interest from singer Alex Chilton and drummer Jody Stephens in continuing the project prevented the album from ever being properly finished or released at the time of its recording. Third reissued in 1985 as ThirdSister Lovers is the third album by Big Star and engineered by Ardents John Fry. By September 1974 the original line up of the band was down to two members, drummer Jody Stephens and singer Alex Chilton. The meticulous power pop that accompanied Big Stars previous albums failed to gain the commercial success that the band and label sought. Recorded with their label, Stax, poised on the verge of bankruptcy, the album finds Alex Chilton at the end of his rope, sabotaging his own music long before it can ever reach the wrecking crew of poor distribution, indifferent marketing, and disinterested pop radio. Big Star's ThirdSister Lovers was first released in 1978. All songs by Alex Chilton except Femme Fatale by Lou 14 from their third album, ThirdSister Lovers first released by PVC Records, 1978. Tracks 1 Kizza Me, 2 Thank You Friends, 3 Big Black Car, and 4 Jesus Christ composed by Alex Star released a pair of classic albums - 1 Record 1972 and Radio City 1974 - on Ardent Records, a poorly distributed arm of Stax that folded not long after the group recorded its extraordinary third album. Third remained in the can until 1978, three years after the groups breakup issued twice by an indie label and never widely available, it has long been out of print. Consigned to the obscurity of cutout bins, Big Stars records circulated by word of mouth throughout a prescient underground of cult fens, rock critics and fledgling musicians, serving as a semiotic blueprint for the p.
