The album was released in the US on Atco Records in 1970. The songs were recorded between 1963 and 1966. The release was followed by a Volume 3. All tracks are written by Barry Gibb except where noted. Rare, Precious and Beautiful is the compilation released by the Bee Gees in 1967 on Polydor Records in Germany, the compilation was released on Karussell and Forum of the songs on this album were originally released on the group's 1966 album Spicks and Specks.
