Ill Communication is the fourth studio album by American hip hop group Beastie Boys. Listen album. From the distorted vocals to the what-happens-if-we-stick-this-with-that approach, its an album shot through not just with the urge to experiment, but with the wide-eyed curiosity that keeps the whole enterprise fun. Which Canadian CD release begins with the answering machine at the start of B-Boys Make With The Freak Freak? There are 7 versions listed for a cd release. Unless it's another verison. There is this french girl leaving a message on an answering machine. This was removed on later versions of this album. I'm not sure if this was on any other releases. But my copy when it came out had this. And I've never came across that release of it in years.

I always thought the translucent black was just really cheap vinyl, given hardly any records were being pressed in 1994. I don't remember any special stickers calling out this feature, and it's barely noticeable unless you're holding it up to light.

wilky77 All of Mobile Fidelity pressing from Japan in the 80's were translucent vinyl. Almost Brownish. I don't understand what significance all the vinyl these days being pressed on 180g has, cause it's not for quality. How's this version sound? I agree with the 180g vinyl pressing comment. I have a lot of Japanese pressings , most are between 140g and 160g. Many of them sound better than the new heavier weight pressings. I think it boils down to what country the album was pressed in as well as what plant actually presses the reissue. It also has a lot to do with equipment as well. That’s not to be taken personally, as my set up is what most Audiophiles would consider mediocre myself. I try and stay away from some pressings as they aren’t as skilled as the old timers who are still working and know what they are doing. I have a couple of recent purchases that have a lot of noise in them from the factory. It’s either dust or poor handling. Read my long response in the below Group. You’ll see why I’m picky about who presses the vinyl I purchase.https://www.discogs.com/group/thread/778440I really don’t care for clear vinyl as it’s hard to tell where the songs on each side or end as you can see through them like glass. I will occasionally buy a clear version as a collector, but I generally prefer black vinyl pressed at an EU plant like Pallas. I also agree with “copyboy311”. I have a lot of MFSL releases both old and new, 180g vinyl adds up in weight and it isn’t always necessarily better. I keep all of my MFSL pressings on the bottom shelf of my hardwood built shelving. Some of the best 180g albums I own are by The Doors, the 2012 Analogue Production 45RPM remastered series. The 2015 Peter Gabriel half speed 45rpm numbered remasters sound great as well. But it’s my Japanese vinyl collection that gets the most play time. I love music of just about all genres, but I generally do not like rap, it’s nothing personal nor racial, I’ve owned some Public Enemy CDs, as well as N.W.A. and others. One of my favorite live performances was by George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars. It was the most amazing sight seeing the mothership land and watching these guys in incredible costumes bring down the House. However, I don’t intend to buy the vinyl release of most of the rap artist, I mostly listened to Rap as many of my friends liked it. I’ve been mostly a Deadhead from my youth and a Phish fan, but I gotta say I still love The Beastie Boys! It’s just hilarious to me that three white Jewish guys from Brooklyn broke into a scene and they we’re incredibly talented. Their lyrics are hilarious and they don’t seem to be as mad about the world as other rappers. Paul’s Boutique is an incredible album. It’s the absolute best album in my opinion they ever made. I like all of their albums, but the amount of illegal sampling they pulled off with that album is as great as it gets. The legal cost of putting out that album now would be unheard of in cost. I hear something different from this album with each time I listen to it. It’s an album that I bought twice as the first repressing was flawed. I purchased another and it sounds incredible. They are exactly the same pressing. Sorry for the long reply, ADHD is sometimes a gift and at other times a lot of nonsense. Enjoy collecting and sometimes you just have to accept that an album reissue is what it is. It’s why I have a few different copies of the same release.Texasbear

I hadn't listened to it in years, but it sounds quite good actually. Wide dynamic range and plenty of low end. Sometimes it's hard to tell how good my copy still is, since there was record noise recorded into the mix. But, yeah, for a thin piece of vinyl, it sounds great. I agree with the 180g hype. Everything was pressed on standard-weight vinyl from the 60s through the 80s and we know that most of it sounded good. RCA even had the super-thin Dynaflex vinyl that some of Bowie's albums were pressed on (Hunky Dory), and they sound good as well. As far as I'm concerned, 180g records just make the collection more of a pain in the ass to move and allow the labels to charge more.
